Recognized with Fair Trade Certification from the International Fair Trade Organization in May 2010 and an IG (Geographical Indication) certificate granted by the Indonesian Ministry of Law and Human Rights, Gayo Coffee has earned its place as a globally acclaimed organic coffee.

At the Special Indonesian Coffee Auction Event in Bali on October 10, 2010, Gayo Arabica Coffee again secured the highest cupping score, solidifying its position as the world’s premier organic coffee.

Gayo coffee flourishes when planted at 1000 meters above sea level. Yet, its distinctive character lies in the unique taste influenced by the plantation’s elevation. While this may introduce variations in Gayo Coffee’s flavor, it adds to its allure, making it uniquely captivating.

The world has bestowed official recognition of Gayo Coffee’s quality through a prestigious quality certificate issued in 2010. Farmers are actively cultivating three renowned varieties, Gayo 1, Gayo 2, and P88, each globally acclaimed for their excellence.

Varieties of Gayo Arabica Coffee.

1. Bergendal.

Bergendal, an Arabica variant, originates from the Bener Meriah plantation in Aceh. It is grown at 1,200 to 1,500 meters and offers a slightly fruity taste with herbal and spicy undertones and a low acidity level.

2. Hairy (Rambung).

Rambung coffee stands out with its large beans among Gayo’s Arabica coffees. It is fast-growing and requires more land for cultivation, representing a unique facet of Gayo’s coffee diversity.

3. Sidikalang.

Flourishing at an altitude of 1,500 meters, Sidikalang Coffee boasts prolonged plant life, and meticulous care and processing contribute to its unique qualities.

4. Ethiopian Line.

As part of Gayo Coffee, Ethiopian Line coffee offers diverse flavors depending on its growing location. Initially introduced to Indonesia in 1928, it remains integral to Gayo’s Arabica coffee collection.

5. Arabusta East Timor.

A blend of Arabica and Robusta, Arabusta East Timor originated in East Timor and was later introduced to the highlands of Aceh after the 1980s, where it underwent further development.
